 Our Values and Ethos

Finding a nursery, you can trust to care for your child in their early years can be a dauting task. We have set out to create an independently run nurturing and homely nursery setting where all children, parents and staff can feel the true sense of a home from home.

Lyndhurst Day Nursery & Preschool is set within a spacious and charismatic building former Pocklington School. Our warm comforting colour scheme, natural wooden furniture, large spacious rooms, and beautiful gardens ensure the children benefit from a familiar, fun and relaxing environment. Free movement between rooms is central to our ethos. The garden with lawn at the front of the building is where children can be involved in a range of forest school activities.

Ratios:

We encourage children to be involved in our scientific area, growing and planting to understand where food comes from and use this in our cooking activities. Our Nursery covers 6 months to 5 years operating from 8 am till 6 pm weekdays. Our staff rations are 1:3 in babies and 1:4 Toddlers and 1:7 or 1:8 in our Preschool this ensures the highest level of personal care and bonding with your child.

Our Day

The children in all rooms have singing, music, dance, and story time. Children have a range of activities to access from cooking making bread to chopping up vegetables to make soup. We go out into the community to the park and visit local places, nature walks, visits to the shops to buy fruit and vegetables for our snack.

Our Values and Ethos

Challenge, Aspire, Nurture

To challenge, promote aspiration and nurture every child in an inclusive environment which offers rich experiences and opportunities that successfully prepare them for the challenges for the future.

Challenge

We challenge every child by establishing high expectations, building key skills that deepen their learning enabling them to be effective communicators who can reason and explain their thinking.

Aspire

We promote high aspirations for every child by offering experiences and opportunities through our rich and varied curriculum, working together to foster ambition in every child and equipping them with the tools to achieve their full potential.

Nurture

We nurture our children by 'modelling' a relationship awareness approach to education, valuing the individual, providing our children with social confidence and self-awareness. We communicate respectfully, building trust together.

We have linked these values to a Learning Dimension and to an animals that lives in each room of our nursery. Children can then identify with in order to make them successful learners.

Friendly Mouse - Who reminds us to question.

Caring Badger - Who helps us to connect all our learning.

Thoughtful Bat - Who reminds us to plan.

Respectful Bee - Who helps us communicate.

Enthusiastic Squirrel - Who encourages us to be creative thinkers.

Butterfly - Who includes everyone.
