We would like to share with parents some information regarding keeping children safe online. Latest Ofcom research shows that over a third of 3-4 year olds are now accessing the internet in their homes.

At Lyndhurst we believe in all kinds of education. Technology allows children to interact and learn on a whole new level. We also believe that with our ever increasing technological world, it is important for children to be familiar with these resources before they go to school where this technology already exists.

We use a variety of resources such as interactive touch screen computers. Under the guidance and supervision of our staff we help children make the best of these resources and the benefits are enormous with developing their social and educational skills.

There are many steps you can take at home

To ensure your child can still enjoy learning with technology and being safe.

  • Take time to understand their internet use and explore the games and services that they will be using. You can also look for family activities and games.

  • Establish rules on what is acceptable online behaviour and set boundaries for their usage.

  • Place your computer, laptop or portable device in a busy part of the house so they can be easily supervised.

  • Take a look in to the many filters and parental controls that can be put in to place, this can be on your browser, or on your hardware.

If you would like any further details regarding the safe use of technology or if you have any concerns, please speak to your Nursery Manager, who will be happy to provide you with some more information and guidance.
